Possibly one of the more spectacular hikes I have been on, hiking to the summit of Dragon Tail Peak in The Enchantments out of Leavanworth, Washington was probably one of the more difficult places to reach. Reaching Dragon Tail peak is easiest via the Stuart Lake Trailhead #1599. The trail starts out as an easy climb, but then toward the end you begin a rapid ascention to Colchuck Lake.
Colchuck Lake is impressive. Towering peaks rise up over the lake. The photo was taken from the backside of the lake near the huge boulder field where Asguard pass starts. Most photos are taken of the lake from the front side, but I felt this angle was particularly interesting.
As you make the ascent to Colchuck Lake, the vistas are impressive. This vista is looking back toward Stuart Lake.
Looking down at Colchuck Lake from the treacherous slopes of Aaguard pass. Definitely an area to exercise caution. There really is not a trail up the pass. It is more of a scramble through rocks and ice depending on the time of year.
Looking up at Aasguard Pass after a long hike into Colchuck Lake. To the right, is part of Dragon Tail Peak.
From Dragon Tail Peak, looking toward Mount Rainier.
